First Look: Dwayne Johnson as Bob in 'Central Intelligence' Comedy

    Central Intelligence

As usual, it’s time to get a look one of next summer’s movies as we’re getting into the thick of this summer. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took to his Twitter/Instagram to send out a first photo of him as “Bob” from Central Intelligence, a new comedy from Rawson Marshall Thurber, director of We’re the Millers. The film is about regular guys recruited to become spies, and he is one of them. “The inspiration behind this character ‘Bob‘ has always been Tom Hanks in BIG with an added twist. He’s a grown man who’s extremely childlike and views the world thru exuberant and enthusiastic teenage eyes…” Yet he’s an elite agent for the CIA. He also “rocks a fanny pack which holds his Bruce Lee quotes and a condom (he’s always prepared).” ›››

Marvel Showing 'Ant-Man' Footage Before IMAX 3D 'Jurassic World'

    Ant-Man

See an exclusive sneak peek! IMAX and Disney/Marvel have announced that showings of Jurassic World in IMAX 3D will have special previews of Marvel’s Ant-Man in front, with 6-minutes of footage. This is a big marketing push since the movie comes out in just about a month anyway, in July, and this is a chance to get hyped with an extra bit of 3D footage. Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang, who becomes Ant-Man with Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas, as his mentor. The press release doesn’t say if it’s one long scene, it just says “more than six minutes of footage will screen exclusively in IMAX theatres domestically and in select international markets beginning June 12th.” So go see Jurassic World, if you weren’t planning to already. ›››

Watch: James Cameron Endorses 'Terminator: Genisys' in Featurette

    James Cameron Terminator

“It’s being very respectful of the first two films… then all of a sudden it just swerves… and now I’m going on a journey.” This is pretty much the definitive “James Cameron tells you to go out and see the damn movie” video. I know it’s probably nicely edited footage, but seriously, they got James Cameron to talk up Terminator: Genisys! So all you haters pay attention. Thanks to a tip from SlashFilm, a new featurette has launched on Yahoo that has James Cameron basically narrating tons of new footage from Alan Taylor’s Terminator: Genisys. I’ve actually heard the movie is better than we’re all expecting. Cameron says this is kind of the third movie in the series, forget Terminator 3 and that other one. Fire it up to hear what he says. ›››

Official US Trailer for Zhang Yimou's Wonderful Film 'Coming Home'

    Coming Home

“Yu, it’s me!” Sony Pictures Classics has debuted a trailer for Zhang Yimou’s film Coming Home, starring Gong Li and Chen Daoming. This beautiful, heartbreaking story is about a man and a woman, who love each other, but they’re torn apart. When an accident leaves his wife, Lu Yanshi, unable to remember him or anything before the accident, he tries everything in vane to remind her of his love for her. One of the ways he reaches out to her is through the piano, and the song he plays for her, which you hear in this and it makes me tear up every time I hear it. So beautiful. I first saw this film at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival (original teaser | my review) and loved it. I’ve been waiting for it to get a released ever since. Finally later this year. ›››

Tarantino Installing 70mm Projectors for 'The Hateful Eight' Release

    Tarantino - The Hateful Eight

I wouldn’t expect anything less from Quentin Tarantino, the owner of a classic repertory 35mm cinema in Los Angeles (and tons of old film reels and other lost film prints). Over the weekend at the Cine Gear Expo held in Hollywood, Tarantino took to the stage at the Paramount Theater on Paramount’s lot to show select 70mm footage from his new film The Hateful Eight. Tarantino, with cinematographer Robert Richardson, decided that this next western should be presented in the 2.78:1 aspect ratio. So they decided to shoot on 65mm film stock using classic Panavision lenses. In THR’s post about the event, they hint that “word on the street is that plans are underway to equip roughly 50 U.S. theaters to show the movie in 70mm”. Oh boy. ›››

  • Bring Him Home – First Trailer for Ridley Scott's 'The Martian' Movie

Bring Him Home – First Trailer for Ridley Scott's 'The Martian' Movie

    The Martian Trailer

“In your face, Neil Armstrong.” 20th Century Fox has unveiled the first full trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Martian, adapted from Andy Weir’s novel. Matt Damon stars as astronaut Mark Watney, the leader of one of the first manned missions to Mars, however he ends up stranded there. You’ll see the rest of the story in the trailer, as it sets up a fascinating and exciting story of survival against all odds. This kind of fits in nicely as a prequel to Interstellar, but it also seems to stand alone as an invigorating new space exploration entry. The movie seems to have an expanded focus on a number of characters, including the rest of the crew but also many back on Earth. It gets really good when Damon begins to figure out how to survive by himself. ›››

The video is a viral promo for NASA featuring astronaut Mark Watney, played by Matt Damon, who takes us on a tour of the Hermes spacecraft soon embarking on the ARES 3 mission to Mars. And finally, we get a few minutes with Matt Damon as Watney at the end. I can’t wait to see a full trailer, but this is a perfect introduction for now. View below. ›››

  • Watch: Official Trailer for Indie Horror 'Creep' with Mark Duplass

Watch: Official Trailer for Indie Horror 'Creep' with Mark Duplass

    Creep Trailer

“1,000 for the day. Filming service. Discretion is appreciated.” Radius-TWC has debuted the official trailer for Creep, starring Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice, who also directed the film. This indie horror that premiered at SXSW 2014 is a found footage story of a videographer who takes a cheap job and ends up working with a guy who seems nice at first, but gets creepier as the night goes on. This looks like a thriller in the vein of Baghead, another Duplass Brothers film, more than a horror from the Blumhouse guys, but I’m still down to check it out. Mark Duplass can’t be that creepy, can he? I guess we’ll all find out soon enough. ›››

  • Kit Harington v Andy Samberg in HBO's '7 Days in Hell' Teaser Trailer

Kit Harington v Andy Samberg in HBO's '7 Days in Hell' Teaser Trailer

    7 Days in Hell

What if a tennis match lasted 7 days? That’s the premise behind 7 Days in Hell, a mockumentary in the style of Christopher Guest’s work that follows the two tennis players during the legendary match in 2004. In comparison to real life, the longest tennis match lasted 3 days, which is actually quite long considering it’s a set of tennis games that just won’t end. In 7 Days in Hell, Andy Samberg battles Kit Harington on the court and it looks like it’s going to be hilarious. This first teaser is only 60 seconds and plays more like a sports promo for ESPN, but I love it, they’ve totally sold me on this. You just need to see the footage below. ›››
