“How hard can it be – you load up a truck, and drive away.” Relativity has debuted a second, full-length trailer for Masterminds, the crazy hilarious heist comedy coming out later this summer from filmmaker Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre, Gentlemen Broncos, Don Verdean). Zach Galifianakis & Kristen Wiig star as a couple who plan a heist that goes right, and they end up with $17 million with their friends Owen Wilson, Ken Marino and Devin Ratray. But once they get the money, that’s when things start to fall apart. Jason Sudeikis and Kate McKinnon also star. This does look very funny, I can’t deny that. I just might have to go see it after all. Owen Wilson looks like he’s having fun. Plus – explosions galore. ›››

“Find them, kill them…” Throw on a poncho, you’re about to get splattered with fake blood. If you haven’t seen the trailer for this film, and you can stand buckets of blood, you need to watch it. Turbo Kid was one of the films playing in the Midnight category at Sundance this year, and while I never got to see it myself, I heard that it was pretty crazy. This trailer finally lets us in on just how insane it is, with gore like no other in a retro unrated action movie gone mad. The film stars Munro Chambers, Laurence Leboeuf, Michael Ironside, Edwin Wright, Aaron Jeffery and Romano Orzari. This seems kind of like a low budget splatter version of Scott Pilgrim, though SlashFilm said it’s “like no other film in the last decade”. Fire it up! ›››

The new Spider-Man has been chosen. Deadline has confirmed that the new Peter Parker, following Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, has been cast. Sony has decided upon 19-year-old actor Tom Holland to star as the new Spidey, and they’ve set Jon Watts to direct. Watts is still an up-and-comer and many may not recognize his name, but he’s the filmmaker behind Cop Car, a Sundance midnight film that we enjoyed – see the trailer here; he also directed the film Clown previously and a number of “The Onion News Network” episodes. Holland was on the shortlist for actors under consideration, along with Asa Butterfield, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer and Charlie Rowe. This seems like he might be the best choice. ›››

“You, my friend, are a riddle to me…” 20th Century Fox has debuted a kick ass new full-length trailer for Hitman: Agent 47, directed by Aleksander Bach, starring Rupert Friend as Agent 47. This actually looks really good, I’ll be honest. Much better than the first trailer. Or at least I’m really into it – the footage looks sleek and visually polished, yet still badass. This new trailer has the kind of editing that sells tickets. I’m even starting to warm up to Rupert as “47”. The rest of the cast includes Zachary Quinto, Thomas Kretschmann, Hannah Ware and Emilio Rivera. Seriously, this doesn’t look so bad, it actually looks like it might be a worthy action contender this summer. The scene with the red car looks like a fun set piece. ›››

“We always knew they were coming back.” Today we celebrate our independence! 20th Century Fox hosted a major event on the set of the new Independence Day movie filming in Albuquerque, New Mexico at this very moment. Not only did they invite half of the film press down to the event, complete with fireworks and a screening of the original movie, but they live-streamed a Q&A with the cast. One of the big announcements was the title and logo (seen above) – it’s officially called Independence Day Resurgence, which is a very lengthy title. Resurgence simply means that there is going to be an angry retaliation from the aliens, they’re definitely coming back and they’re going to be pissed off. Tragic news to report about one of our favorite composers. On the morning of Monday, June 22nd, a single-engine S-312 Tucano MK-1 airplane piloted by composer James Horner crashed in California. Horner was the only one on board and perished in the accident. He was an experienced pilot and loved flying. Many major media outlets are now confirming that the missing pilot was indeed James Horner, despite confusion on Monday evening regarding whether he was actually piloting the plane registered to his name. Horner won the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1998 for Titanic, and also won for Best Original Song. He has been nominated 7 other times, including at age 34 after writing the score for James Cameron’s Aliens. ›››

“If you stand with us you will be butchered.” Lionsgate has debuted the official US trailer for Dragon Blade, a historic action epic from China directed by Daniel Lee, produced by & starring Jackie Chan. This “action spectacle on a grand scale” features the fight for the Silk Road when East and West collide, in a story about warriors fighting against warriors. Adrien Brody (screaming his heart out) stars as Tiberius, John Cusack stars as Lucius, Jackie Chan stars as Huo An, with Sharni Vinson as Lady Crassus, and Alice Aoki as the Queen. While the footage does look action packed, and that arrow-to-the-face shot is awesome, I’m not so sure about the rest of the hammy acting. Maybe they’re just out-of-context scenes? Let’s hope so. ›››

New Stanley Kubrick movies?! Not just one, but an entire trilogy? Whoa! Cool. Deadline is reporting that Marc Forster, director of Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland, Stranger Than Fiction, The Kite Runner, Quantum of Solace, Machine Gun Preacher and World War Z previously, has signed on to develop a feature film trilogy based on Stanley Kubrick’s lost original screenplay The Downslope, that Kubrick wrote in 1956. Forster will direct & produce the first movie in the trilogy, then will only produce the other two, with other directors being lined up (most likely, but as of yet unconfirmed). This will be a “sweeping, historical action-drama” during the Civil War about Confederate Army Col. John S. Mosby who goes after Gen. Custer. ›››

Unite. Unite to take down the Capitol. Unite to show your support for Katniss. Lionsgate has launched a very ambitious global marketing campaign titled “#Unite” that is based on the three-finger salute from The Hunger Games. The grand finale, Mockingjay – Part 2, is only a few months away at this point and the studio is making sure to go all out with this conclusion. Years ago when the first Hunger Games movie was coming out, I suggested to a marketing exec the idea of focusing on the iconic salute (used in a few powerful scenes so far) as a way to rally fans behind Katniss in real life. It’s awesome to finally see them taking on this idea and turning it into a global hype machine, and it’s definitely going to work. This is going to be very big. ›››
