Must Watch: First Red Band Trailer for Key & Peele's Comedy 'Keanu'

    Keanu Trailer

“Keanu needs you!!” Key & Peele are back! Warner Bros has debuted an awesome new red band trailer for Peter Atencio’s Keanu, starring Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key as two “blerds” (aka black nerds) who must work their way into a drug cartel in order to rescue an adorable kitten named Keanu. Yea, that’s pretty much all you need to know going in, because the rest of this is just that concept playing out and it’s hilarious. I’ve been curious about this since we first heard about it, and it looks like it’s one of the first must see comedies of 2016. Also starring Luis Guzmán, Will Forte, Nia Long, Rob Huebel and Method Man. ›››

  • Back at the Sundance Film Festival for My 10th Year of Films & Snow

Back at the Sundance Film Festival for My 10th Year of Films & Snow

    Sundance Film Festival

It all began in 2007. I drove 9 hours from Colorado across the Wyoming plains, down through the Wasatch Mountains into Park City. It took three days of begging the press office to get a press badge (we’d only been up and running for 7 months at that point), but I luckily had tickets to see films. Now I’m back, for my 10th year in a row, to attend and cover the Sundance Film Festival. (Thankfully I don’t have to beg the press office for a badge anymore.) I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it – I love this festival. I feel like I grew up here, made so many friends here, saw so many of my favorite films here. To borrow a line from my friend Peter at /Film, “the Sundance Film Festival isn’t just a film festival, but a look into the future of cinema.” ›››

  • Another Trailer for Herzog's New Internet Documentary 'Lo & Behold'

Another Trailer for Herzog's New Internet Documentary 'Lo & Behold'

    Lo & Behold Documentary

“I can not only imagine artificial intelligence evolving spontaneously on the internet, but I can’t tell you it hasn’t happened already…” The AI revolution has already begun! And we don’t even know it yet. Another new trailer has arrived online for Werner Herzog’s new Sundance documentary Lo & Behold, Reveries of the Connected World. Herzog spends time wondering about the internet, and the way it connects people, as hinted at with this first trailer. However, this second trailer focuses more on robotics and artificial intelligence – and the potential future where these have taken over completely, and we’ve evolved passed the need for physical human connection. That seems like quite a distant thought, but that’s why it’s fascinating to consider. The doc plays at the Sundance Film Festival starting this week – watch for reviews to hit soon. ›››

  • First Trailer for 'Term Life' Starring Vince Vaughn & Hailee Steinfeld

First Trailer for 'Term Life' Starring Vince Vaughn & Hailee Steinfeld

    Term Life Movie

“No one can connect us to any of this.” Focus World has unveiled a trailer for the film Term Life, a crime drama starring Vince Vaughn as a man being hunted by hitmen trying to extended his life in hopes that his insurance policy will kick in just in time to pay out to his estranged daughter. Hailee Steinfeld co-stars as his daughter, and the cast features Taraji P. Henson, Jon Favreau (in some kind of role), Terrence Howard, Annabeth Gish, Bill Paxton, Mike Epps and Jordi Mollà. This isn’t so much of a comedy, but it has some funny moments, though I still can’t help feel Vaughn seems out of place. Maybe it’s just me. ›››

Watch: Kiefer & Donald Sutherland in Trailer for Western 'Forsaken'

    Forsaken Trailer

“Are them stories true about the men you killed?” Momentum Pictures has debuted a trailer for the western Forsaken, about an embittered gunslinger who attempts to make amends with his estranged father whilst their community is besieged by ruthless land-grabbers. The film stars father and son duo Kiefer Sutherland and Donald Sutherland, along with Demi Moore, Michael Wincott, Brian Cox, Landon Liboiron and Siobhan Williams. This has been a very strong season for westerns, including Bone Tomahawk and The Hateful Eight, as well as the underrated Slow West. There’s also Jane Got a Gun coming up, but this also looks like a solid indie western worth checking out. Plus it’s cool to see the two Sutherlands in a movie. ›››

  • Disney Pushes Release of 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' to December 2017

Disney Pushes Release of 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' to December 2017

    Star Wars: Episode VIII

Briefly: It’s official – Disney has moved the release date of Star Wars: Episode VIII from May 2017 to December 2017. The highly-anticipated sequel to The Force Awakens, being directed by Rian Johnson, was originally scheduled by Lucasfilm/Disney for May 26th, 2017. Now it has been rescheduled for release on December 15th, 2017. This puts it in line with the December release for The Force Awakens and the December release for Rogue One later this year. This also now pits Episode VIII to open head-to-head against James Cameron’s Avatar 2, which is supposed to open Christmas 2017. A few other studios have shifted 2017 releases in response. The fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie will take over Star Wars’ slot. ›››

Watch: First Teaser for Karyn Kusama's Horror Thriller 'The Invitation'

    The Invitation Teaser Trailer

“Each and every one of us is on a journey…” Drafthouse Films has debuted a teaser trailer for a film called The Invitation, a horror thriller about a lovely dinner party that seems to have a darker side. Logan Marshall-Green plays Will, who is invited to a dinner party at his ex-wife’s home, and begins to wonder if her and her new husband have “sinister intentions for their guests.” The cast includes Michiel Huisman, John Carroll Lynch, Emayatzy Corinealdi, Tammy Blanchard, Mike Doyle and Lindsay Burdge. I’m not sure what’s going to happen but it looks freaky. Those who have seen it will tell you that it’s “one of those films about which it is best to know as little as possible before watching it.” This shows just enough. ›››

    Suicide Squad

“We’re the bad guys. It’s what we do.” Warner Bros has unleashed the first official trailer for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie, bringing the villains of the DC Comics world together for some fun. This is a more polished version of some of the footage first seen in the Comic-Con teaser, and it looks badass. Deadshot, Harley Quinn, The Joker, Enchantress, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang and Rick Flagg show up, along with some teases of other crazy characters from the DC universe. Love the way the Queen song is used. There’s so much crazy footage in this, can’t help but say I’m excited to see what Ayer has been cooking up. Fire it up! ›››

Watch: First Official Trailer for Norwegian Disaster Movie 'The Wave'

    The Wave Trailer

It was only a matter of time. This looks epic! Magnolia Pictures has unveiled an official US trailer for The Wave, a big disaster movie set in Norway. The film is about a giant wave of water that emerges when a fjord collapses, destroying everything in its path. The plot: “a geologist gets caught in the middle of it and a race against against time begins.” Ten minutes extended to two hours! This is the closest we’ve seen to a Roland Emmerich disaster movie (except San Andreas) and it actually looks damn good. Starring Kristoffer Joner, Thomas Bo Larsen, Ane Dahl Torp and Fridtjov Såheim. Don’t ignore this one, give it a look. ›››
