Hear me out: Counter-Strike‘s pro cheating scandal—which has seen three top-tier players get banned and others put under a hot magnifying glass of scrutiny—sucks right now, but it could be a good thing in the long run. Or it could create standards the sport can never live up to.

Guillermo del Toro is pulling together the script for Pacific Rim 2, and it sounds like Charlie Day and Burn Gorman will be back for the sequel. Their characters are being written into the script, at least. We know that some of the characters from the original film won’t be back in a big way for the sequel, though they may show up in a proposed third movie. So the inclusion of those two guys is one of the first real bits of info we have about the second chapter of the big robots vs. monsters series that was given a shot in the arm with the formal announcement of the big-screen sequel.
While talking to del Toro about the DVD and Blu-ray release of The Strain Season 1, the director told Collider that the film starts off a couple years after the end of the first movie:
It’s a few years after the first one. It’s not an immediate follow-up. It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after – what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat. It’s quite a jump.
And with the world changing quite a bit, there’s still room for the two argumentative scientists :
It’s quite a different movie from the first one in that, but I think that two of our main characters like in the first one are Burn and Charlie. They are really, really – I mean, honestly, they are probably the guys I have the most fun writing along with Hannibal Chau so just from a purely selfish drive, I like writing them. I love writing for Charlie and Burn. I mean, [Burn’s] in Crimson Peak for that reason, because I love working with him. You’re gonna get a lot of that, but the Kaijus are very different and you’re gonna see a very different type of the robots I think. It’s gonna be quite a different adventure.
The script should be set by spring 2015, and the film will likely start shooting at the end of 2015.
Pacific Rim 2 is set for release on April 7, 2017. Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand) is working on the sequel script, and original screenwriter Travis Beacham is working on the sequel and overall franchise development, too.

The last volume of the Harry Potter series was published in 2007, but author J.K. Rowling has returned to the wizarding world several times since. Most recently, she completed the script for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as confirmed by producer David Heyman.
David Yates is set to direct the Harry Potter spinoff, which is inspired by a made-up Hogwarts textbook that became a real Harry Potter companion volume in 2012. Hit the jump for the latest update on the JK Rowling Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them script.
The status update on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them came during Heyman’s chat with The Telegraph. “Jo [Rowling] has written a wonderful script,” he said. “It’s early stages. David Yates is directing and we start filming next year. I’m just really excited about it.”
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was first announced last fall, with Rowling confirmed to write. She tweeted last month that she was still “tweaking” the screenplay, so the completion of the script is a recent development.
Heyman produced all eight Harry Potter features and is set to produce all of the Fantastic Beasts series, which will consist of “at least” three movies. His non-Potter credits include I Am Legend, Gravity, and the upcoming Paddington.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be set in New York City circa 1920, about seventy years before the start of the Harry Potter series. The first film will follow the adventures of Newt Scamander, a “magizoologist” whose writings on magical creatures would go on to become required reading for Hogwarts students.
Few other details have been given about the story, although Rowling offered fans a hint last month in the form of a cryptic tweet. Unscrambled, the strange message spelled out: “Newt Scamander only meant to stay in New York for a few hours.”
Although Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set in the same universe as the Harry Potter series, Rowling has said the new film will be “neither a sequel nor a prequel” — so direct ties to the Harry Potter plotline are unlikely.
The project reunites much of the old Harry Potter team. Director Yates directed the last four installments of the original Harry Potter film series. Also returning are executive producer Lionel Wigram, who served as executive producer on the last four films, and Steve Kloves, who scripted seven out of the eight movies.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens November 18, 2016. The next two installments are dated for 2018 and 2019.

Daniel Barnz‘s indie drama Cake is being promoted in some circles as Jennifer Aniston‘s best shot at an Oscar nomination in ages, which frankly isn’t saying much. She typically favors the type of fluffy comedy roles that don’t get awards attention, and hasn’t done a “serious” role since 2006′s Friends With Money.
But on the rare occasions that she does break into more dramatic territory, she usually does quite well. Cake seems to be no exception. Aniston plays Claire Simmons, a woman in a constant state of physical and emotional pain. At a low point, she begins obsessing over a suicide victim played by Anna Kendrick. Sam Worthington, William H. Macy, Felicity Huffman, Chris Messina, and Adriana Barazza also star. Watch the Cake trailer after the jump.
ABC News debuted the Cake trailer.
It’s not hard to see why Aniston is getting good buzz for Cake. She completely sheds her glamorous image to play dour, dowdy Claire. Aside from the prosthetic scars stuck to her body, she’s totally makeup-free. The results, so far as we can tell from the trailer, are a great reminder that Aniston can really act her face off when the situation calls for it.
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely Cake will be the one to get Aniston that little gold man. Cake got a tepid reception at TIFF, though Aniston’s performance was often singled out as one of the highlights. But if we’re lucky, maybe the compliments she’s getting for Cake will encourage Aniston to try stretching her dramatic muscles more often in the future.
Cake opens in 2015.
Claire Simmons (Jennifer Aniston) is in pain. Her physical pain is evident in the scars that line her body and the way she carries herself, wincing with each tentative step. She’s no good at hiding her emotional pain either. Blunt to the point of searing insult, Claire’s anger seethes out of her with nearly every interaction. She has driven away her husband, her friends — even her chronic-pain support group has kicked her out.
The only one left in Claire’s otherwise solitary existence is her housekeeper-cum-caretaker, Silvana (Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza), who barely tolerates her boss’ need for liquor and prescription pills. But the suicide of Nina (Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick), one of Claire’s fellow chronic-pain group members, prompts another fixation. In pursuing questions about the death of a woman she barely knew, Claire explores the boundaries between life and death, abandonment and heartbreak, danger and salvation. As she inserts herself into the lives of Nina’s husband (Sam Worthington) and the son Nina left behind, Claire just might find salvation.

When you lose blood in the game, you also lose it in real life. That’s the concept for Blood Sport, a new gaming project that was seeking funds on Kickstarter before the crowdfunding site suspended it.
The concept is relatively simple. Every time your character took damage in a game, any game, the system would draw blood into a sterilized donation bag similar to the standard blood bank experience.
Here’s how it works. When you take damage in a game like Call of Duty, the controller rumbles. All Blood Sport’s creators did was re-route this signal, using an Arduino Board, to determine how much blood is drawn. The process would stop when you reach the set blood donation quantity.

The system factors in your age, weight, and preexisting medical conditions, too.
Blood Sport’s creators were hoping to take the system across Canada, with gaming gatherings that effectively double as blood donation events.
“We are simply creating the gaming hardware that will allow us to get gamers thinking about more important issues while still doing what they love,” the team said. “From there, we’ll partner with the appropriate organizations in both the gaming and medical communities to bring it all to life.”
Blood Sport was aiming to begin a tour of Canada on March 17, timed with the release of Battlefield Hardline in an effort to drum up hype. The project’s creators were also hoping to get celebrities such as PewDiePie, Seth Rogen, Snoop Dog, and Conan O’Brien to play Blood Sport.
The project was created by just two people, Taran Chadha and Jamie Umpherson, who are working on Blood Sport in their spare time.
In terms of safety, the Blood Sport team says all tests were conducted alongside medical professionals. And while Blood Sport’s system should know when to stop drawing blood, in the event that there is a problem, a medical technician standing by would step in, the creators say.
It is unclear why Blood Sport, which launched on Kickstarter November 18 and gathered close to CA$4,000 ($3,500) of its CA$250,000 goal, was suspended just this week. The game’s creators could not be reached, and a Kickstarter represented declined to comment when approached by CNET.
We’ll continue to monitor this story as it unfolds.

As the gamer-focused G4 TV nears the end of its days, founder and former CEO Charles Hirschhorn has launched an online auction for memorabilia from the X-Play network’s glory days.
Up for auction are Hirschhorn’s personal collection of items, including a G4 clock, various t-shirts, G4 caution tape, and even G4-branded fuzzy dice. You can see the whole set of items here. The auction wraps up soon, so if you’re interested in bidding, you’ll want to do so right away.

100 percent of proceeds from Hirschhorn’s auction will go to fighting homelessness. Specifically, funds will go to Chrysalis, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless and low-income individuals get the resources they need to get back on track.
Former G4 host Kevin Pereira has recorded a video (above) where he talks about Hirschhorn’s impact on his own life and why you should check out the auction.
G4 will officially go offline November 30. It has not aired any new original programming in quite some time. Though the network is perhaps best known for programs such as X-Play and Attack of the Show!, it most recently aired only re-runs of shows like Cops, Lost, and Ninja Warrior, as well as some movies.
Did you ever watch G4’s original shows? Are you interested in Hirschhorn’s auction? Let us know in the comments below!

Resident Evil publisher Capcom has a new PlayStation 4 title in the works that will “turn heads,” according to producer Jun Takeuchi. He teased the game in the latest issue of Famitsu (via Gematsu).
Takeuchi described the PS4 as an “incredible system,” and one he’s constantly learning new things about. Pressed to say if Capcom was working on any new PS4 titles, beyond those that have already been announced, Takeuchi said this is indeed the case.
“It’s gonna be something that will even turn heads overseas” — Takeuchi
“Of course,” he said. “Right now, we’re seeing how far we can push the game engine. You’ll be surprised by the quality of the games we’re working on right now. I think we’ll be able to announce it soon, so please look forward to it. I realize that’s obnoxious (laughs).”
He went on to say: “It’s gonna be something that will even turn heads overseas.”
One of Capcom’s major new PS4 games is the free-to-play dungeon-crawler Deep Down. That game’s producer, veteran Capcom designer Yoshinori Ono, is also working on a second PS4 title, according to Gematsu. It is possible that the game teased by Takeuchi is that game, though it’s not confirmed.
During his time at Capcom, Takeuchi has worked on a number of franchises, including Onimusha, Lost Planet, and Resident Evil.
