  • Rebel Wilson Has Met With Paul Feig About ‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot

Rebel Wilson Has Met With Paul Feig About ‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot

    Rebel Wilson in Pitch Perfect

From the moment it was announced that Paul Feig would be directing an all-female Ghostbusters rebootquel, fans have been gossiping and speculating about which actresses might star. At the moment, no stars have actually been announced — but now a potential star has gone and outed herself.

Rebel Wilson, who had a supporting role in Feig’s Bridesmaids, revealed she’s already met about a role in the upcoming movie. However, she also stressed that no decisions have been made as of yet. Hit the jump for more Rebel Wilson Ghostbusters 3 chatter.

Wilson spilled the beans to Matt Lauer on The Today Show. “Look, I have had a meeting, but who knows? They have to look at the script when it’s finished.” She added, “I would even do that without the money truck. I’d do that for free. I probably shouldn’t say that live on TV.”

So it sounds like Sony, Feig, and screenwriter Katie Dippold are seeing who they can get before they nail down the script. Without knowing anything about the script, we can’t say whether she’d be a good fit. But she is very funny. And she’s worked with Feig before, so we already know she fits quite well with his brand of comedy.

Although Feig hasn’t confirmed any casting, it seems like everyone’s been making their own predictions. Basically, Ghostbusters 3 is to comedic actresses right now what Star Wars 7 was to all other actors a year ago — something everyone gets rumored for, asked about, and/or fantasy-cast in.

Melissa McCarthy is considered the odds-on favorite to star, since she stars in most of his movies recently, but she insists she hasn’t been cast yet. For his part, former Ghostbuster Bill Murray has suggested that Kristen Wiig, Linda Cardellini, and Emma Stone should shoulder the proton packs. And Ellen DeGeneres, Lena Dunham, and Bill Hader have gone on record saying they want in.

  • ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Trailer: How Does This Movie Even Exist?

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Trailer: How Does This Movie Even Exist?

new Mad Max Fury Road trailer

I just listed Mad Max: Fury Road as my #1 most anticipated movie of 2015, and right on the heels of that list we’ve got a new trailer for the film. Watching this, my primary question is: How the hell does this movie even exist? This looks like pure, wonderful insanity, and like nothing we’d expect from the modern studio system. This seems to be a sequel that may barely be a sequel in modern terms; an orgy of practical effects and automotive destruction; and if some of those quick insert shots are to be believed, a dose of pure weirdness. Check out the new Mad Max Fury Road trailer below.

(And check out our frame by frame examination of the trailer, too!)

Mad Max: Fury Road opens on May 15, 2015. Trailer via Warner Bros.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the fourth film of George Miller‘s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller. The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.

Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order… There’s Max (played by TOM HARDY from The Dark Knight Rises), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos.

And… Furiosa (played by CHARLIZE THERON from Prometheus), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.”

  • BBC Adapting J.K. Rowling’s ‘Cormoran Strike’ Novels for TV

BBC Adapting J.K. Rowling’s ‘Cormoran Strike’ Novels for TV

    Cormoran Strike TV series

After finishing off Harry Potter, author J.K. Rowling started to explore some different territory, but her efforts are all leading to movie and TV projects. Her first “adult” novel, The Casual Vacancy, was quickly put into development for television as a joint effort between HBO and the BBC. Now there’s a Cormoran Strike TV series in the works, centered on the character of the same name who is a former army officer turned private investigator and based on the books published under the pen name Robert Galbraith. The first effort in the BBC series will be The Cuckoo’s Calling, based on Rowling’s debut novel as Galbraith.

Variety reports that the crime series will begin to shoot early in 2015, and will air on BBC One. The book follows as “Strike looks into the supposed suicide of a model, who plunges to her death from a balcony in high-class Mayfair. Strike suspects it was murder.”

There’s no casting yet, but we do know that Rowling will advise on the series.

    She said on Twitter,

My friend @RGalbraith‘s first novel is going to be a TV drama on @BBCOne. He’s very excited, but expressing it with characteristic silence.

    — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) December 10, 2014

And director of BBC Television Danny Cohen,

It’s a wonderful coup for the BBC to be bringing J.K. Rowling’s latest books to the screen. With the rich character of Cormoran Strike at their heart, these dramas will be event television across the world.

We’ll pass along casting info when it becomes available; if the show does plan to shoot early in 2015, we’ll likely hear choices soon.

After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, thelegendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man. You may think you know detectives, but you’ve never met one quite like Strike. You may think you know about the wealthy and famous, but you’ve never seen them under an investigation like this.

  • PlayStation Exec Talks PS4 Street Fighter 5 Exclusivity

PlayStation Exec Talks PS4 Street Fighter 5 Exclusivity

PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara has addressed the recent announcement that Capcom’s upcoming fighting game Street Fighter V will be released exclusively on console for PlayStation 4.

Speaking today in London, Gara said he didn’t have a hand in forging the deal with Capcom, but said he believes the Street Fighter franchise’s “natural home” is on PlayStation.

“I wasn’t involved, so how it came about I can’t comment on, but I think it’s another fantastic example of how our heritage provides some fantastic opportunities not just to reminisce but to look forward as well,” Gara explained to IGN.

“Obviously it’s a classic from earlier PlayStation days, but now it’s being reintroduced for the PS4 era,” he added. “It was a huge hit on PlayStation, so I guess you could say Street Fighter’s natural home is on PlayStation. Now, I’m delighted that’s going to happen again in this cycle.”

Street Fighter V is also coming to PC, and cross-platform play will be supported. Capcom has not announced a release date for Street Fighter V nor has it confirmed the game’s fighter roster yet.

In the wake of the exclusivity announcement, Microsoft’s gaming boss Phil Spencer spoke out about the news and vowed to make amends to Xbox fans.

  • Latest Witcher 3 Delay Explained

    Latest Witcher 3 Delay Explained

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red has spoken out to explain the open-world RPG’s most recently delay, which has pushed the game’ release back by three months, from February 2015 to May 2015.

CD Projekt Red board member, Adam Kicinski, spoke with Polish financial journalists about the decision this week–after all, CDPR is a publicly traded company in Poland.

“Gamers took our decision very well,” Kicinski said, as reported by Eurogamer. “[The] market is afraid of badly polished games on next-gen platforms.”

It’s been a challenging year for some new games, including Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Driveclub, and Assassin’s Creed Unity, each of which have suffered through problematic launches. CDPR doesn’t want the same to be true for The Witcher 3, so the studio is taking more time to iron out the bugs.

“We don’t want to release the game with bugs that undermine the gameplay” — Kicinski

“There’s a lot of small errors though, because the game is huge,” Kicinski explained. “It’s the only reason behind the delay. We didn’t assume it will be this big. Only after putting all the pieces together it turned out it’s bigger than the two first put together.”

“Let me remind you: it’s open and not linear,” he added. “We are just learning how to play it and we have to catch the little pieces. We know what to do, we just have to do it. We don’t want to release the game with bugs that undermine the gameplay.”

Kicinski also reiterated that the February 2015 release date for The Witcher 3, itself a pushback from the game’s original fall 2014 release window, was too optimistic given the scope of the game. “We announced the release date very early and we’re paying for it now,” he said.

The Witcher 3’s latest delay is particularly noteworthy, given the fact that CDPR management previously promised “no more delays” for the RPG.

It’s not the only game to shift from 2014 to 2015, however. Others included Batman: Arkham Knight, The Order: 1886, Quantum Break, Dying Light, The Division, and Mad Max.

The new Witcher 3 release date is May 19, 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. For more, check out GameSpot’s previous coverage of The Witcher 3.

  • Nintendo Europe: We Will Ensure Amiibo Stock is Replenished

Nintendo Europe: We Will Ensure Amiibo Stock is Replenished

Nintendo Europe will continue to resupply Amiibo stock that has sold out, the corporation has told GameSpot, following rumors that some of the new toys have been discontinued already.

However, the issue is complicated because representatives for Nintendo of America have said, and later denied, that it will no longer manufacture some of the highly sought figurines.

Confusion surrounding the supply of Amiibo began when an independent Canadian games retailer, Video Games Plus, claimed on Twitter that Nintendo “has officially discontinued Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, & Villager Amibos.”

“Sorry folks these are gone forever,” the retailer wrote.

Nintendo has officially discontinued Marth, Wii Fit Trainer & Villager amibos. Sorry folks these are gone forever #Amibo #Nintendo #soldout

    — VGP Video Games Plus (@VideoGamesPlus_) December 6, 2014

When questioned on the matter, a representative for Nintendo of America said that “due to shelf space constraints, other figures likely will not return to the market once they have sold through their initial shipment.”

That, in turn, led to a purported Nintendo executive to claim that “we have not discontinued any of the Amiibo figures.”

In a bid to draw a line on the matter, Nintendo of Europe has issued a statement to GameSpot, which reads:

“Nintendo of Europe would like to confirm that supplies of Amiibo are currently available in the European market. Amiibo have been very popular at launch and as such it’s always possible that a few retailers may have sold out. We are continually aiming to always have a regular supply of Amiibo brought into the marketplace and there are many waves of Amiibo to come.”

Amiibo figurines are plastic miniatures of some of Nintendo’s most iconic characters. With built-in NFC technology, these toys can will interact with certain Nintendo games in various ways, such as transferring gameplay data.

The first Nintendo game set to support Amiibo is Super Smash Bros for Wii U, and Nintendo has now revealed an initial list of other games that will support the toys in some form. They are:

Currently, the 2DS, the 3DS, and the 3DS XL do not support Amiibo technology, which is why Nintendo is set to release a new version of the handheld with NFC capability built in.

Sony's Secret London Shop Selling 20th Anniversary PS4s for £19.94

The UK arm of PlayStation has opened a pop-up store at an undisclosed location in London, where it is selling the ultra-rare 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 for £19.94.

Only 12,300 such consoles exist worldwide, and general stock sold out within minutes on Saturday as pre-orders opened in the US. One day later, these custom-designed consoles fetched as much as $20,000 on eBay.

So on Tuesday night, when PlayStation UK announced that it was selling 94 Anniversary PS4s for just £19.94, whilst offering some clues about where the shop was located, fans scrambled across London to find it.

By Wednesday morning, hours before the secret shop opened, a huge queue amassed outside. Those at the front had waited outside the store overnight.

By Wednesday morning, the secret location–found within the East London district Bethnal Green–quickly became common knowledge on social media.

In a bid to limit the number of resellers and business buyers, Sony said those who purchase the PS4 Anniversary Edition will need to trade in some kind of PlayStation memorabilia in their possession, be it an old console, or game, or related paraphernalia.

On Thursday and Friday, Sony will also be selling 100 Anniversary Edition PS4s at full retail price. All proceeds go to the UK charity GamesAid.

Further details on the limited deal can be found in the video above.

  • Twitch Acquires Evil Geniuses' Agency GoodGame

Twitch Acquires Evil Geniuses' Agency GoodGame

Video game streaming service Twitch has acquired GoodGame, a talent and content agency which works with the esports and live video game broadcasting communities. The news was announced today on the Twitch Blog. GoodGame is well known for its professional gaming teams Evil Geniuses and Alliance.

GoodGame CEO Alexander Garfield explained in an announcement, “I’d like to think that GoodGame could play a role in helping get everyone on the same page. We understand things from the team’s perspective; the player’s perspective; the tournament’s perspective. We’ve run many different kinds of esports projects, and we know what it takes to make them successful and sustainable. But at the same time, up until now our company’s been just as consumed as everyone else by the day-to-day demands of running a business in a very competitive industry – and it’s limited our ability to look out for everyone and think as altruistically as we’d like. That’s why I decided to align us with Twitch.”

GameSpot reached out to Twitch for comment on how the acquisition would affect GoodGame, and a representative confirmed, “Goodgame will remain organizationally the same and they will continue to run their agency and represent clients and sponsors alike.”

Earlier this year Twitch was acquired by Amazon in a $1 billion deal, following speculations that YouTube would acquire the site. Twitch is the largest live-streaming website in the United States by a wide margin, according to a report released this spring, and has expanded into non-gaming ventures, such as streaming concerts. Amazon has become aggressive about gaining a foothold in the video game industry, attracting talent like the designers of Portal and Far Cry and purchasing Killer Instinct developer Double Helix Games.
