“He really just needs someone to be here… for him…” One of the horror short films that played at last year’s Fantastic Fest was this short, titled House of Straw, about a married couple dealing with some problems. Written & directed by Kyle Bogart, the film is about a troubled marriage that is on the verge of falling apart, but at the same time this has a twist because it’s actually a werewolf story. It’s best just to dive in and watch the entire thing and see for yourself, especially if you’re a fan of werewolf stories or watching indie short films that come with a great script. This is an impressive little short that shows quite a bit of promise not only with the story but also the production. A feature version of this is already in the works. Have fun. ›››

“You took the wrong kid!” Holy crap! Relativity Studios has debuted a wild trailer for the kidnapper thriller titled – yes, this straightforward – Kidnap. The film stars Halle Berry as a passionate mother who stops at nothing to recover her kidnapped son. This is an odd trailer because it spends so much time setting up the first act of the film, then flashes a few glimpses of what happens later, but relies mostly on the fear and intense emotions of having a child taken. Will it be any good? Hard to tell. Also starring Sage Correa, Lew Temple, Dana Gourrier, Christopher Berry and Chris McGinn. I’m not sure about this – take a look. ›››

“Aren’t we censoring ourselves? So what’s the point of our music?” Kino Lorber has released a trailer for the upcoming US release of the Tunisian film As I Open My Eyes, about a young girl torn between two lives: her connection to her family and her devotion to her rock band. Newcomer Baya Medhaffer plays the 18-year-old Tunisian woman named Farah, a singer in a politically charged rock band balancing her life as a musician and traditional expectations of her family. Described as a “nuanced portrait of the individual implications of the incipient Arab Spring”. This looks like a fascinating and impressive film from Tunisia, worth checking out for many different reasons, including the debut performance of Baya Medhaffer. Enjoy. ›››

Millie Bobby Brown, the 12-year-old star of Netflix’s latest hit, Stranger Things, shaved her head for her role as the mysterious and powerful character Eleven. Now, the child actor has posted a video that shows how her losing her lengthy brunette hair for the part in the sci-fi thriller series.
Released on Twitter, the timelapse video uses the Beyonce song “Pretty Hurts.” Take a look:
Here it is!! The video of me getting my hair shaved for #StrangerThings. Enjoy!😘💙 #buzzed pic.twitter.com/qFQWwib1ti

Eleven’s shaved head is one of the character’s most defining physical characteristics for Stranger Things. If you’ve seen the show, you know her shaved head factors into the story often and in a number of ways.
Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer told Entertainment Weekly that Brown, as well as her parents, were not initially on board with the idea of shaving her head. Some worried that having no hair might impact her ability to land other roles. Everyone warmed up to the idea when the Duffer brothers showed Brown pictures of Charlize Theron, who shaved her head for Mad Max: Fury Road.
“[We asked] ‘Charlize looks totally badass, right?’ Millie agreed; Charlize looked badass. And that was it: She agreed to buzz it all off,” the brothers said.
“When the day of the haircut finally arrived, Millie’s mom brought out a camcorder, while her dad ran away with tears in his eyes, unable to watch. It was a pretty dramatic scene,” they added.
In other news about Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers recently talked about the fates of two popular Season 1 characters [SPOILERS]. The show, which debuted in July, has not been renewed for a second season, but it ends on a number of cliffhangers, so we really hope more Stranger Things is coming.

Here’s something unexpected and impressive. A multi-talented musician dressed as Charmander recently performed the Pokemon theme song using flaming bagpipes while balancing on a Poke Ball.
This happened recently in Portland, Oregon, a city whose popular slogan is “Keep Portland Weird.” The man in the video below (via GameSpot sister site CNET) is Brian Kidd AKA The Unipiper–and this is not his first video where he plays a popular song on flaming bagpipes while in costume.
Go to The Unipiper’s YouTube page to see more of his videos, including one where he dresses up like Darth Vader and has a lightsaber battle with Bigfoot.
In other news about the Pokemon series, Pokemon Go developer Niantic Labs is now taking action against cheaters. As for the mainline RPG series, The Pokemon Company recently announced four new creatures for the game, two of which are sand castles.

Having already completed its majority sale of Major League Baseball team the Seattle Mariners, Nintendo today announced how much the sale amounted to: $661 million.
In a news release today, Nintendo announced that the deal has been officially closed, following an approval from Major League Baseball.

As for the $661 million, Nintendo said it expects it will “take some time to calculate and confirm” the impact of this on its financial performance. This is expected to be divulged when Nintendo reports earnings next, this fall.
Nintendo still owns a 10 percent stake in the Mariners, though the majority ownership now stands with members of First Avenue Entertainment. Howard Lincoln retired from his post as part of the sale–he served as Nintendo of America’s chairman in the ’90s. Now, majority owner John Stanton–who has been involved in the Mariners organization since 2000–replaces Lincoln as chairman and CEO, in addition to being the designated MLB control person for the team. Lincoln continues to serve on the FAE Board of Directors, representing Nintendo.
Stanton took to Twitter back in April, when Nintendo first announced it would sell its majority stake, to discuss his goals for the Mariners and its pursuit of a World Series win.
“I believe that the Mariners are well positioned to achieve that goal and it will be my honor to lead the organization,” he said. “I want to thank Howard for his leadership for the last 17 years and thank the members of the board and ownership for giving me this opportunity.”
As for how the team is performing this season, the Mariners are currently only one game out of first place in the AL West.

Bethesda has provided an update on how Fallout 4‘s mods program is coming along for PlayStation 4 and it might not be what fans want to hear.
Responding to a question on Twitter (see the exchange below), Bethesda marketing executive Pete Hines said the mods program for PS4 is currently under “evaluation,” presumably by Sony, and so he cannot provide a release date.

On August 1, Hines said something very similar, telling fans on Twitter that Bethesda is working with Sony to release the Fallout 4 mod program on PS4.
“The process is still under evaluation. As soon as we learn more, we will share news,” he said at the time.
Official mod support for Fallout 4 was added to the PC version in April. Following a brief beta, the feature came to Xbox One in May, with the plan being to run a beta on PS4 and then introduce the feature for all users in June. However, serious issues with the PS4 version cropped up, and Bethesda ultimately had to delay the beta on that platform.
As Hines has said time and again, there is no ETA for when the mod program will be available on PS4. Keep checking back with GameSpot for more.
Next up for Fallout 4 is the Nuka-World expansion, which comes out on August 30 for all platforms. You don’t have to wait that long to see the content in action, as Bethesda will broadcast new gameplay footage for it tomorrow, August 22, during a livestream event. Nuka-World is Fallout 4’s final expansion.

The Assassin’s Creed movie will hit cinemas on January 1 in the UK. This is a week later than in the US, where it will release on December 21.
Assassin’s Creed stars Michael Fassbender in the two lead roles. He is joined by Oscar-winners Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons. An Assassin’s Cree Ubisoft executive previously said the company is not expecting to make a lot of money from Assassin’s Creed.
“It is a lot more a marketing thing. It’s also good for the image of the brand,” European boss Alain Corre said. “We have our core fans, but what we would like is to put this franchise in front of a lot more people who, maybe, will then pick up future Assassin’s Creed games.”
Ubisoft’s head of content for Assassin’s Creed, Azaizia Aymar, later said the movie will buck the trend of bad video game adaptations.
“What we’re trying to do is make sure the [Assassin’s Creed] DNA is respected,” he explained. “On top of all of that, we’re making sure we’re able to move forward on new inspirations and ideas. We want everything to feel legit. As you saw with the trailer, we think that part of the job has been done in a really nice way at the moment.”
In terms of video games, Ubisoft will not release a new mainline Assassin’s Creed game this year. This, the company has said, gives the film’s marketing team more time and opportunity to focus on building interest in it.
The next game in the Assassin’s Creed series, which is rumored to launch in 2017, is believed to be set in Egypt.
