Watch: Trailer for Conservationist Romantic Comedy 'Scottish Mussel'

    Scottish Mussel Trailer

“Scallops. You’ve got a bath full of scallops.” Check out this quirky trailer for a very odd indie comedy called Scottish Mussel, which is an awkward play on words considering this is a romantic comedy and yet it’s also about mussels, meaning molluscs. Scottish Mussel is the directorial debut of actress Talulah Riley, who also stars in the film as the conservationist beauty who falls for an an illegal pearl fisher. Martin Compston plays a “Glaswegian chancer” who head to the Scottish Highlands to make money diving for pearls with his two friends. The romance angle is extremely cliched, with the obvious aspect of the two of them hating each other before she convinces him that mussels are worth saving. The cast includes Morgan Watkins, Joe Thomas, Harry Enfield, Rufus Hound, Camille Coduri & Marianna Palka. Dive in. ›››

New Walking Dead Season 7 Posters Promise a "Price Will Be Paid"

The seventh season of The Walking Dead starts next month, and all eyes are on Negan. The bat-wielding bad guy is much anticipated by fans, and the new season’s marketing is very much centred around him. A promo video was released yesterday, and now we have some striking new posters. Check them out below, via Collider:

Negan is played Watchmen star Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He ended season six by claiming the life of one of the show’s main characters, the identity of whom will be revealed when the new season kicks off.

In a recent interview with EW, Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl in the show, spoke about how the death will affect the different characters. “The group is completely broken apart at this point,” he said. “Negan has come in and completely shaken up everything. Loyalties are broken, belief in one another, belief in ourselves. Each individual is completely broken, and they don’t all handle it the exact same way.

“Some accept it. Some fight it. There are people questioning it. There are people pointing their fingers. There are people blaming themselves. Other things happen that completely destroy people.”

The Walking Dead season 7 premieres on AMC on October 23.

  • NBA 2K17's Arenas Look and Sound Great in New Video

2K Sports has released a new trailer for NBA 2K17 that focuses on the professional basketball game’s arenas. The video spotlights the league’s numerous arenas and covers how they are modeled to be authentic to their real-world counterparts, even down to team-specific sounds and more.

In the video’s caption, 2K says it visited all 30 NBA arenas across the United States and Canada to authentically capture how each stadium looks, but also how it sounds. As you’ll see and hear in the video, the shot clock buzzer sounds different depending on what arena you’re in. This is all being done in an effort to create the “most authentic experience in a sports game ever,” 2K said.

In other news about NBA 2K17, 2K recently confirmed that Creed actor Michael B. Jordan will star in the game’s MyCareer mode. You can get started with NBA 2K17’s MyCareer mode on September 9 when a free app called “The Prelude” arrives on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This lets you choose your position, select a play style, and define your character’s physical attributes like height and wingspan.

The full game comes out on September 20, but you can play four days early if you preorder. In addition to PS4 and Xbox One, NBA 2K17 is coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

  • Marvel's Doctor Strange Movie Will Be in UK Cinemas Earlier

Marvel's Doctor Strange Movie Will Be in UK Cinemas Earlier

It’s becoming increasingly common for big Hollywood movies to be released internationally ahead of the US. The upcoming Marvel film Doctor Strange was already set to open in the UK a week before its domestic debut, and now British fans can see it even sooner.

    3125839-doctor-strange-movie-composer-cumberbatch.jpg

As reported by Den of Geek, the UK release of the movie has shifted from Friday, October 28 to Tuesday, October 25. This means it will open a full 10 days ahead of the US, where it debuts on November 4.

Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch as mystical sorcerer Stephen Strange, and also features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelsen, and Rachel McAdams. It is directed by Sinister‘s Scott Derrickson.

Last week a new promo for the movie was released by Marvel, featuring cast interviews and new footage from the film. Check it out below:

In a recent interview with Gamesradar, Derrickson explained that the film wouldn’t provide a scientific explanation for Strange’s incredible powers. “It’s not something that’s easy to define,” he said. “As magic should be. Magic should be mysterious.

“There’s mystery to magic and there’s mystery to the tone of the movie. Mystery is a good thing”.

  • PS4 Slim and Neo Liveblog: Follow Along Here for the Latest Updates From the Show

Sony’s highly anticipated New York news event takes place today, September 7, starting at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET. In addition to breakout news stories, GameSpot will be in the room at the PlayStation Theater to bring you a liveblog with up-to-the-second updates for the news regarding all the big announcements.

Officially, Sony has not said a word about what fans can expect. Thanks to leaks, however, we are fairly certain one of the reveals will be a slimmed-down PlayStation 4 console. Considering this system is already apparently out in the wild, we wouldn’t be surprised if it will also launch relatively soon.

The other expected announcement is the new, more powerful PS4 console, Neo. Sony confirmed this system in June, but has not yet offered much in the way of specifics. This is likely to change today during the event, which may serve as the console’s formal unveiling.

As is always the case in the consumer technology world, there is a chance of a complete surprise announcement or reveal.

You can also watch the entire event live on GameSpot, while, as mentioned, we’ll have breakout news stories and analysis after the event wraps up.

  • Bethesda Wants Fallout 4 PS4 Mods "As Fast As Humanly Possible"

Bethesda Wants Fallout 4 PS4 Mods "As Fast As Humanly Possible"

Fallout 4‘s mod program was supposed to launch on PlayStation 4 in June, but that never happened for reasons that publisher Bethesda has never fully explained. In a new interview with Metro, marketing executive Pete Hines was asked to elaborate, but he declined.

Instead, he said, “All I can say is that [the Fallout 4 PS4 mod program is] undergoing an evaluation process and as soon as it’s done, and we have more info, we’re gonna let everyone know.”

    3057741-fallout4_farharbor_fogcrawler_1462351145.png

The interviewer jumped in to suggest that Hines’ comment implies that it’s Sony that is holding things up. Hines didn’t give anything away here, but stressed that Bethesda remains committed to delivering the mod program on PS4, even if it takes some time.

“It’s definitely not that we’ve decided not to do it, we absolutely, positively want to get PS4 mods out as fast as humanly possible,” he explained.

Fallout 4 mods made their console debut on Xbox One in May. Mods are created on PC and then published to Bethesda.net, where Xbox One players can download them. The same setup is likely to be in place for the eventual PS4 release.

At the end of June, Bethesda announced that it had delayed the Fallout 4 PS4 mods program after the publisher acknowledged some serious-sounding issues.

Also in the Metro interview, Hines was asked if Bethesda will have an E3 showcase in 2017. He said the company “probably” will due to a number of projects it has in the works that would fill the time.

“Knowing what I know, I think we would probably do another one next year,” he teased.

It’s too soon to know what Bethesda might have in the pipeline that it could talk about during E3 2017, but the company recently said it will make The Elder Scrolls VI eventually. Additionally, director Todd Howard has teased some “big” and “crazy” projects that are currently in the works.

  • BioWare Teasing PlayStation Meeting Announcement

BioWare could be revealing something during Sony’s PlayStation Meeting today, if a series of Twitter teases from developers at the studio are any indication.

The first of these comes from Alistair McNally, head of design and art at BioWare’s Edmonton, Montreal, and Austin studios.

“Really, REALLY excited for the Sony PlayStation press conference tomorrow. Some surprises are in store I expect,” he said, adding, “Also it’s probably about time I changed my twitter avatar image and background.” McNally then changed these to be Dragon Age related artwork.

Responding to excitement from Twitter user BioFan, Mac Walters, who is creative director at BioWare, seemed to suggest fans of the studio should watch the PlayStation Meeting.

I love your commitment to ambiguity and I wholeheartedly support it… But stay tuned. Just in case. https://t.co/4HkbQzQxec

    — Mac Walters (@macwalterslives) September 7, 2016

Mass Effect: Andromeda producer Michael Gamble later published a vague tease suggesting that something could be happening today.

Oh, God. Tomorrow is 7th, isn’t it?

    — Michael Gamble (@GambleMike) September 7, 2016

Of course, all this teasing could amount to nothing, but on August 31 EA Studios boss Patrick Soderlund said BioWare will discuss its new IP relatively soon.

“We’ve been very open about the fact that BioWare is working on a new IP, and we’ll get to talk about that in the not too distant future,” he explained. “We have other teams working on new IP as well. I think it’s about a balance, right? Making sure that we continue to push what great looks like for Battlefield or FIFA or Madden–or Star Wars, for that matter–while continuing to invest in something new.”

The new IP is in development at BIoWare’s Edmonton studio, which is also working on the Mass Effect: Andromeda. It was officially announced in September 2012 and, at the time, BioWare said the game was being built from the ground up running on “new gaming technology,” likely referring to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, which had not yet been released at the time.

In early August, Soderlund also said we’ll get a first-look at Mass Effect: Andromeda gameplay “in the not too distant future,” responding to queries about the lack of new footage E3 and Gamescom this year. New Mass Effect: Andromeda footage could also be a possibility.

McNally’s choice of new display picture and background on Twitter, however, could be a hint that the announcement, if it happens, may be related to Dragon Age. The last game in the series was Dragon Age: Inquisition, which was released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A Game of the Year Edition including all post-launch DLC was also released.

If you’re holding out for a Mass Effect Remaster announcement, you may be waiting a while. EA has said it is unlikely to make them because they could distract from Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Either way, we’ll know soon. Sony’s PlayStation Meeting will take place at 12 PM PT/ 3 PM ET. You can find details on how to watch it here.

It is the year 2016, and three of the items on Steam’s top ten best-sellers list are Spore. A midweek madness sale of Spore and its expansions is to blame, but still: strange times. Also interesting: despite being broadly declared a letdown, Spore’s 8,373 Steam reviews are 87% positive, or “very positive” by Steam’s measure.
