Over the years Sonic the Hedgehog has had a torrid time making the leap from a two dimensional world to 3D, so much so that fans have taken it upon themselves to make amends. One fan who goes by the name of Xaklse, created a 3D Sonic Games Development Kit which he’s finally put to good use. Green Hill Paradise: Act 2 appears to be shaping up into an incredible game with plenty on offer, and an awful lot Sega could be taking notes from too.

“Really trying to make this ultimate combination of organic and digital.” IMAX has released a fascinating featurette on the making of Terrence Malick’s new documentary Voyage of Time, examining the creation of the universe leading all the way up to the origin of man. We’ve already featured two different trailers for the two versions of this movie, but this video dives into the processes and techniques they used to make the visuals in the movie. It’s remarkable to see how they made some of these visuals using practical methods, including fluid tanks and smoke machines and other tricks. They tried to make this as realistic as possible, and it looks so so so beautiful. Malick is going all out with the visuals here with great attention to detail. I really can’t wait to experience this in its full IMAX glory. “We deserve to pause sometimes and just reflect.” ›››

A trailer has debuted for the film 37, inspired by the true story of the murder of Kitty Genovese in 1964. The title refers to the 37 people who were witnesses to her rape and murder, yet did nothing to stop it. The film is told entirely from the perspectives of her apathetic neighbors in Queens, who chose not to get involved for fear of unintended consequences. The ensemble cast stars Samira Wiley, Michael Potts, Maria Dizzia, Jamie Harrold, Thomas Kopache, Lucy Martin, Adrian Martinez, Sophia Lillis, Marquise Gary and Christina Brucato as Kitty Genovese. “For better or worse, the ride had begun. And what a ride…” The Weinstein Company has debuted the first trailer for the film called Gold, the latest from screenwriter Stephen Gaghan, who also directs. Gold stars Matthew McConaughey as Kenny Wells, and Édgar Ramírez as Michael Acosta, two businessmen who team up to search for gold in Indonesia. It’s based on the 1993 Bre-X Mineral Corporation mining scandal, and almost feels like a Wolf of Wall Street sequel in a few ways. The cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Joshua Harto, Timothy Simons, Corey Stoll, Toby Kebbell, Bruce Greenwood, Bill Camp and Rachael Taylor. This looks solid, but there’s a wacky side to it I wasn’t expecting. It might be fun to watch. ›››
