After Five Years, PS4 Has Sold Over 86 Million Units Worldwide

Software no slouch either.

Sony’s celebrating the PS4’s fifth birthday today, and it’s throwing out some interesting stats regarding its wildly successful platform. Perhaps most worthy of note is that, as of September 2018, Sony has shifted 86.1 million consoles globally — a staggering number, and as our very own Sammy Barker pointed out, it’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Equally impressive is the number of software sales. As of June 2018, the total worldwide number reaches 777.9 million. It’s not specified, but we imagine that includes both digital and physical games. It’s a crazy figure, isn’t it? As the platform holder itself points out, we’re still in for some big titles in the years to come. From Sony alone, there’s The Last of Us: Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, Dreams, Days Gone, Death Stranding, and Concrete Genie. Five years in, and PS4 is looking healthier than ever.
