While we wait for Warner Bros to figure out what to do with Jeff Nichols’ Midnight Special, the filmmaker already has another project lined up. A press release sent out has announced that Nichols is attached to direct a film called Loving, starring Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga, based on the couple behind the seminal 1967 civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia. Production is already slated to start shooting in September later this year in Virginia, meaning this is definitely next for Jeff Nichols, and Warner Bros is likely going to push back Midnight Special until after he finishes all the major work on this film. “I was struck by the simplicity of the Loving’s story, and I hope to make this a painfully beautiful film,” Nichols comments.
