In the late 80's Nintendo ruled the gaming world with it's famous NES system.   However, a lesser known company called Sega was about to change everything. With the release of the Sega Genesis system in 1989, Sega brought a whole new level of graphics and sound quality to the console market. For the first year sales were slow, while some great games were coming out, Sega had yet to capture the mass market dominated by Nintendo. With the release of Sonic the Hedgehog in 1990, things changed. Coupled with excellent marketing campaigns pointing out the NES's inferiority and 'childishness,' Sega was
launched into the limelight eventually controlling more than 60% of the 16-bit market in the USA. Their campaigns were so successful in fact, 90% of surveyed kids were actually afraid to admit owning a Nintendo system to their peers. Even after the release of Nintendo's SNES, Sega continued to prosper with the help of sports and action titles. In the end, the  16-bit market was split evenly between Nintendo and Sega (with NECs PC-Engine filling in the  rest). Eventually, the system began to show its age, and with the Saturn's release in 1994 it was ready to fade away...

im almost 14 and i got my genesis when i was only 4.  i got the lion king game with it, and ever since then i have loved the system.  My absolute favorite games are the ecco games.  I used to have all 3 (ecco jr., ecco the dolphin, and ecco the tides of time) but i gave them away when i was 11.  I think that that was a very stupid move on my part.  I am now trying to re collect the games and i am even getting the dreamcast game(defender of the future) to compare them.  I didnt get a chance to really experience the games because of their difficulty, so i plan on playing 4 hours!!

Well, im a big fan of old school, and the genesis has a whole lot to offer to gamers like
me.  I have 30 genesis and 4 32X games and dont plan on stoppin there.  Of all of Sega's
systems the Genesis can be considered the best, and its existance outlasted that of the
other systems.  From 1989 until 1998 games were coming out for the genesis even though
sega tried to introduce 3 systems unsucessfully during those 9 years.  I have my own top
ten genesis games list.  Sorry i didnt put in all the sonic games, but there were 7 sonic
games on the system.  We wouldnt have a true top 10 list then.
1.Sonic the Hedgehog 2 2.Phantasy Star II 3.Sonic & Knuckles
4.Phantasy Star III 5.Shining Force 6.The Streets of Rage 7.Sonic 3D Blast 8.Jurassic Park
9.Desert Strike 10.Sonic Spinball
The 3 sonic games i put there were the ones that i thought were the most innovative in the
series.  By the way, if any of you can find a website that has a listing of all the games that
came out please tell me.  Thanks

The Sega Genesis is my all time favorite video games system,
I do belive the Xbox will join it as my all time favorites,
but it's to early to tell about that...
To this day I still have my own space set aside for video games,
manny systems the oldest being a Coleco Vision with the Coleco
Vision Expansion module #1 "the Expansion Module plays Atari 2600
games" and newer stuff including a Sony Playstation and
Sega Dreamcast.

I love the Super Nintendo, but I love the Sega Genesis so very
much more, the days to the 16-bit game systems had the best
competition ever.
The Sega Genesis is known for Sports games, but I never liked sports
games, the Super Nintendo is known for Role Playing Games,
yet I'd pick Sega's Phantasy Star over Final Fantasy any day!
The Super Nintendo had the illusion of Gaia and Chrono Trigger,
but the Sega Genesis had Crusader of Centy and Exile...
Plus the Sega CD add on for the Genesis has Lunar and
Shining Force CD.
So many old games I love...
So far I've enjoyed every Sonic game ever made, but some were beter
than others, Knuckles' Chaotix and Sonic Spinball wern't as fun
as the others, but still were fun.
The Sega CD was a great add on, as long as you knew what kind of
games you wanted, there were a few games that were little more
than slightly interactive movies, and only a few of those were good.
yet manny Sega CD games were great, some of the best 16-bit games
were for the Sega CD (Sonic CD, Ecco, Lunar, and lots more)!

The 32X wasn't nearly as good of an add on as the Sega CD,
but I'm still glad I got it, for Example I spent a lot of time
playing Doom, and Virtua Fighter (and a few others) on it.
I even enjoyed the 32X CD version of Fahreneit.

Plus out of all the Video game systems I have,
I never had a Sega Master System but I did get the Power Base
converter to play Sega Master System games on my Genesis,
and discovered there were a lot a really good Sega 8-bit games!
(I also still play my Nintendo 8-bit games too)

Don't think just because I've been talking about games for the
add on's I don't play many regular Genesis games...
Today I got Lotus Turbo Challenge for the Sega Genesis
It wasn't as good as Lotus Turbo Challenge on the computer
(but it's not the systems fault it was a bad port)
any way what special about me getting that game is that it is my
50th Sega Genesis game!
I have 50 Sega Genesis games,
plus 2 mega Drive games,
plus 5 32x games,
plus 1 32x CD game,
plus 11 Sega CD games,
plus 13 Sega Master System games,
That's 82 games I can play on my Sega Genesis system!
My total collection of games for all my Game systems together
is well over 200, but, I'm not going to count them all right now.

There were many games that played better on the Genesis
than any other system (at least in it's time),
and many games that could only be found on the Genesis,
it really was one of the best systems ever!

I've been a loyal Sega fan since Genesis was released.  We have about 20
games for it, and we are trying to find some old favourites, in particular
Dragon's Fury 2, and Shining Force 2.  Sega's games are much more creative than
Nintendo. You know, the old adds from the 1990's were true.... "Sega does what Nintendon't!"

I have the original Genesis, 5 games (Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Tecmo Super Bowl, MK2, and Streets
Of Rage 1), 2 controllers (orig. 3 button controller and the 6 button controller), Sega CD (new-
style from 1994), and 4 Sega CD games (Sewer Shark, MK, Lethal Enforcers, and ESPN National
Hockey Night [bought the hockey game at EB last year for a mere 99 cents]). I have enjoyed the
Genesis and Sega CD since I got 'em, but I didn't care for the 32X add-on (it added another power
supply to the Genesis power supply and the Sega CD power supply...good thing I had a surge
protector for all 3 AC adaptors) because IMHO it didn't improve on the Genesis or Sega CD.

Just bought olympic summer games but have found no existence of this game on the net, not
even to buy. Any info on how to compete in the events would be much appreciated

Hello. My name is Jacob, and I still play Genesis games. In fact, I still love both my Nintendo
and Genesis systems. The replay value of the games is incredible, and the games are original
and creative. The newer systems may have the awesome graphics & sound, but
I think the older games are still more enjoyable. After all, there's  more to playing a game than
just eye-candy. In fact, I'm even devoting a section of my website www.bonechill.com to the
Sega Genesis and  the games I own. As long as players like myself keep it alive, the Genesis
will never fade away.

Thanks go to Player's Choice for giving us another Genesis resource on the web.
